CXFFEEBLACK

INSPIRE Roaster of the Year

Excellent coffee, while investing in their neighborhood, and trying to undo the negative association some black folks have with coffee.  They aren't doing things the easy way - but they believe that people who can trace their roots to Africa should be in the midst of Coffee (an African fruit's) development and not just as low cost labor in harvest.

INSPIRE Roaster

We pick our INSPIRE Roaster based on who we think can be an inspiration for the local coffee community.  They don't do things the easy way.  They don't do things just to maximize profits.  They respond to a calling beyond the stereotypical business requirement.

CXFFEEBLACK

Highlights

Anti-Gentrification Coffee Club

Rather than follow the easy path and build their business in an affluent area - the Anti-Gentrification Coffee Club was launched in a not so wealthy part of Memphis to provide education and community.

Barista Exchange Program

CXFFEEBLACK worked to bring 4 black baristas from the US to Ethiopia and Rwanda - and the following year brought 4 coffee professionals from Africa to Memphis.  They even put together a beautiful documentary on the trip to Africa.

Whole Person Caring & Service

Listen to the stories from the Barista Exchange Program or follow @mrscxfeeblack on IG - and you will see compassion that oozes.  The whole premise of CXFFEEBLACK is to reclaim something beautiful that had become demonized.

Crowdsoucing

To build their new space (in the same neighborhood) they turned to the crowd with an actual investment opportunity.  So if people wanted to contribute - they will also reap some of the rewards and build value for their community

We think CXFFEEBLACK is an inspiration - how can we spark love for our community here in Peoria, like CXFFEEBLACK is working to do in Memphis and through their Supply Chain?
